PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing mesylate trihydrate of (1S,2S)-1-(4- hydroxyphenyl)-2-(4-hydroxy-4-phenylpiperidin-1-yl)-1-propanol compound of formula (I). SOLUTION: The method for producing the mesylate trihydrate of the compound of formula (I) comprises (1) the dissolution of D-(-)-tartaric acid salt of the compound of formula (I) in an aqueous solution of methanesulfonic acid and (2) the separation of the methanesulfonate trihydrate of the compound from the solution.
