PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conical friction transmission type continuously variable transmission which can obtain a large transmission force, realize the efficient transmission with a strong torque, improve the durability, implements the rapid transmission switching operation, and cope with the rapid speed change such as the kick-down. SOLUTION: This conical friction transmission type continuously variable transmission comprises a conical main wheel and an inverted conical sub wheel which are separated from each other and with the conical direction opposite to each other and the axes parallel to each other, a pair of intermediate idler wheels connected to a connection piece so as to house the conical main wheel and the inverted conical sub wheel, and a hydraulic device disposed on an arm tip of each intermediate idler wheel, and a screw driving means for moving each intermediate idler wheel along the conical wheels. The intermediate idler wheels are pressed against the conical wheels by using the hydraulic mechanism making use of the leverage thereof to control the transmission.
