PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably regenerate a catalytic device for preventing an offensive smell of exhaust gas and restraining lengthening of regenerating time of a catalyst by minimizing the concentration of H2S generated according to the release of SOx from the catalyst in an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: When releasing a sulfur component from a storage NOx catalyst 25 by enriching the exhaust air-fuel ratio in a high temperature state, a temperature or a temperature rising speed of the storage NOx catalyst 25 is controlled so as to restrain generation of hydrogen sulfide according to a frequency (an S regenerating frequency) of becoming a state of blowing off the sulfur component by the storage NOx catalyst 25.
