PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device which can speedily and accurately input a KATAKANA(square form of Japanese syllabary) word by making it easy to input a long sound '-' when Japanese is inputted through Roman character conversion. SOLUTION: When a KATAKANA conversion indication (SO) is made for an inputted word, phoneme decomposition (S1) is performed and when the same vowel or a similar vowel is detected (S2), the latter vowel is converted into the long sound '-' (S3) to perform KATAKANA conversion (S4).
