PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp that can hold the seal structure of seal parts for a long period of time to lengthen the service life of the lamp. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp 100 is provided with an arc tube 10 with a pair of electrodes 12, 12' opposedly arranged in a tube 15 in which a luminescent substance 18 is sealed, and a pair of seals 20, 20' for respectively sealing a pair of metallic foil 24, 24' electrically connected to a pair of electrodes 12, 12'. At least one seal 20 out of a pair of seals 20, 20' has at least one constricted part 26 (with a length L') reduced from a length L in the thickness direction of the metallic foil 24 in the seal 20 in comparison with the other part in the seal 20.
