PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scroll compressor that can prevent refrigerant leakage and thus improve the compression efficiency. SOLUTION: The scroll compressor comprises a fixed scroll 12 provided with a voluted wall raised on one side of an end plate, and an orbiting scroll 13 provided with a voluted wall raised on one side of an end plate and supported for revolutionary orbiting motion with rotation inhibited when the walls are interdigitated. The fixed scroll 12 and the orbiting scroll 13 are supported in an insulated relationship with each other. A power source 31 is provided to apply voltage to the fixed scroll 12 and the orbiting scroll 13. A lubricant 32 lubricating between the fixed scroll 12 and the orbiting scroll 13 is an electrically thickening fluid whole viscosity is increased by an electric field.
