PURPOSE:To prevent a document from damaging and to improve the safety and reliability by providing a detecting means which detects whether or not there is the document at an exposure position and a control means which controls an automatic document feeder to discharge the document when the detecting means detects the presence of the document. CONSTITUTION:When the document D2 is mounted on an original platen 30 manually or removed from the original platen 30, a switch 31a detects a document cover 32 being opened and closed. The detection result is sent to the 1st controller 53 of the automatic document feeder 3 and when the opening/ closing operation of the document cover 32 is detected after copying operation, the automatic document feeder 3 feeds the document D1, but when the opening/ closing operation of the document cover 32 is not detected, the 1st controller 53 inhibits a pickup roller 36 from performing taking-out operation, so that the automatic document feeder 3 is inhibited from feeding the document D1. Consequently, the document is prevented from damaging and jamming and the reliability and safety of the device are improved greatly. |
