PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurate gear shift control in relation to the gear shift control device of the automatic transmission, even when friction elements are interconnected to achieve a predetermined gear shift stage or the friction elements are slid and engaged with each other to achieve a neutral state during shift change from a non-running range to a running range. SOLUTION: When a shift range of the automatic transmission is switched from the non-running range to the running range, a first control of driving and controlling the friction elements from a release state to a connection state to achieve gear shift to the predetermined gear shift stage or a second control of driving and controlling the friction elements from the release state to a slide engaging state to achieve the neutral state is selected in response to an operation state. During the second control, a control parameter value commonly used in the first control and the second control is learned and corrected.
