PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce wear of a guide face of a chain guide. SOLUTION: In this back face driving type silent chain formed by connecting multiple link plates 2 having a pair of tooth parts 22 on both sides of a center line L1 of a pin hole by a connecting pin 3 and placing a guide link 4 on an outermost side, when distance from the center line L1 of the pin hole to a chain guide abutting face 23 of the link plate 2, distance from a center line LG of a pin hole to a chain guide abutting face 43 of the guide link 4, and clearance between the pin hole 21 and the connecting pin 3 are defined as hl, hg, and c, respectively, a relation represented as hl>=hg+c/2 is satisfied. In this case, a gap between the chain guide abutting face 23 of the link plate 2 and a guide face 51 of the chain guide 5 can be made larger than c, and only the chain guide abutting face 43 of the guide link 4 can be thereby brought into contact to the guide face 51 over a long time to reduce wear of the guide surface 51.
