PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of a plunger, and of a solenoid valve by extension by making it possible to use magnetic substance of low material cost and high hardness for the plunger. SOLUTION: In a solenoid valve of such a constitution that the valve is closed when a coil 8 is not energized, and that a magnetic circuit from a valve body 1 to a movable element 6 is formed when the coil 8 is energized to apply a valve part 4b to a valve seat 2b to make a closed state as the element 6 pushes a plunger 4 against energization force of a spring 5 by suction force generated between the movable element 6 and the valve body 1 having a gap 7 between them, the plunger 4 is formed of magnetic substance, and a protrusion of such a cross sectional area as to saturate flux of the magnetic circuit formed from the plunger 4 to the movable element 6 when the coil 8 is energized is formed on one end surface of the plunger 4.
