Product has ES (environmental protection and safety) bar code for the consumer, together with bar code for producer or distributor. Consumer reads ES code (10) to contact ES code information server (40) to find out about e.g. ground, water quality, degree of air pollution, exhaust fumes, analysis results etc. connected with production of product. ES codes are stored at mobile server (40). Product has bar code attached containing ES code. When consumer wishes to find out about production details of a product, ES code is read using reader of mobile communication unit and code is sent to end unit (20) and via internet (30) to server (40) for ES code services. Analysis and evaluation results are sent via internet to consumer (10) in form of purchase advice or more specific data.
