<p>The hydraulic tensioner comprises a housing having a bore, with an inner surface. The housing has an aperture in communication with a source of pressurized fluid. A hollow piston is slidably received within the bore, the piston having an inner surface and an outer surface. A piston spring biasses the piston in a direction toward the power transmission device. A valve housing comprises a hollow structure with an inner chamber. The valve housing has a number of valve housing apertures. A fluid filled pressure chamber is of an annular shape, the pressure chamber having an outer surface defined by the piston inner surface and the bore inner surface.
