The tele-payment system includes a mobile payment unit (10) which is included in the mobile telephone (1,6), into which a mobile telephone subscriber enters the bill payment information and the payee's account number, in order to pay the bills. After dialling of the telephone number to the computing station (2), which is based in the bank (3), the payment information is sent to the computing station (2) via a mobile telecommunications network (4). In the computing station (2) the calling party's identity will be checked and then the payment will be transferred from the calling party's bank account to the payee's account, and then both the calling party and the payee will be informed about the relevant payment.
