PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing unit that applies conversion or the like to quantized DCT coefficients to efficiently convert them into DCT coefficients whose quantization errors are reduced. SOLUTION: A prediction tap extraction circuit 41 extracts a quantized DCT coefficient from 3×3 blocks around a target DCT coefficient block corresponding to a target DCT coefficient block according to pattern information stored in a pattern table storage section 46 to configure a predicted tap. A cross product arithmetic circuit 45 uses the tap coefficient stored in a coefficient table storage section 44 and the predicted tap to apply linear prediction calculation to the quantized DCT coefficients to convert them into a DCT coefficients whose quantization errors are reduced.
