PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a relief valve which can restrain the vibration and reduce the unusual noise due to vibration. SOLUTION: A frictional resistance is given to movements of a spool 9 by installing a seal ring 30 which slidably contacts with an outer periphery 13a of an insertion part 13 of the spool 9 in a circumferential groove 29 formed in an inner surface 5a of a valve aperture 5. An elastic member 31 is provided in the circumferential groove 29 to press the seal ring 30 against the outer periphery 13a of the insertion part 13. Notches 32 can be furnished on the sliding contact surface of the seal ring 30 against spool 9. The frictional resistance given to the moving spool 9 at the time of relief contributes to the restraint of vibration of the spool 9. Chattering or unusual noise accompanied therewith can be prevented from generation.
