The shaft (8) carries an assembly compensating for axial play. A resilient annular disc (19) expands radially against spring force. Two washers (20, 21) taper radially and inwardly on either side, providing bearing surfaces. The shaft includes an annular projection (22), and the casing an annular collar (23) which act against corresponding faces of the washers (20, 21). The resilient disc (19) is pre-compressed between projection and collar (22, 23).
