The electronic component has a base element and an external electrode on the base element with a number of layers. The outer layer of the electrode with respect to the base element contains tin with a polycrystalline structure and tin crystal grains with boundaries and atoms of another metal than tin at the tin crystal grain boundaries. Independent claims are also included for: 1) a circuit board; and 2) a method of manufacturing an electronic component.
