PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect the double-feeding with sheets fed in an overlapped state. SOLUTION: In a printer 10 comprising a feeding roller 11 for feeding a sheet S, a conveying driving roller 26 for conveying the fed sheet, a sheet detector 46 mounted between the feeding roller and the conveying driving roller for detecting the presence or absence of the sheet, a recording head 12 for recording an image onto the sheet conveyed by the conveying driving roller, and a control part 16 for controlling the feeding roller, the conveying driving roller and the recording head on the basis of a signal from the sheet detector, the control part measures a length of the sheet on the basis of a sheet conveying amount by the conveying driving roller and a result of the detection by the sheet detector, and the double-feeding of the sheet is judged only when a measured value of the length of the sheet is more than a reference value of the sheet.
