PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for easily and efficiently separating the objective dimethyl ether and unreacted gas from a dimethyl ether product gas produced from a feedstock synthesis gas and then recycling the unreacted gas into the reactor. SOLUTION: The subject method for producing dimethyl ether is characterized by comprising the following process: a feedstock synthesis gas is put to pressure rise by a compressor and fed into a reactor, where a dimethyl ether synthesis reaction is performed, the resultant gas thus formed is distilled and divided into a fraction comprising hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, a dimethyl ether fraction and a 3rd fraction comprising water and methanol.
