PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and effective water treatment process in which flocs are formed by only adding a chemical agent and also to provide a flocculant which is used for the water treatment process and has excellent performance, or more specifically the flocculant which can very strongly be adsorbed on suspended matter and scarcely remains in the treated water and, even if remains little, is harmless to a human body and unnecessary to remove. SOLUTION: This flocculant comprises alkylated protein, or more specifically, a protein alkyl ester. A water treatment chemical agent containing this alkylated protein as a flocculant and the water treatment process using the flocculant or this water treatment chemical agent are also provided.
