PURPOSE: A method and a system are provided for timing recovery of a sine curve preamble with a short loop waiting time. CONSTITUTION: By obtaining coefficient in advance, the phase shift of an FIR filter is estimated and the phase error of input to the FIR filter (201) is determined. Because of asymmetric setting of the coefficient, phase shift through the FIR is not zero. For preferable execution example, the duration of an acquisition mode timing loop is decreased by eliminating the duration of the FIR filter (201) itself. The coefficient is programmed in a memory (205) or applied as a part of LMS application. Because of inference, multiplying operation is avoided and adding operation and a single divider are used. The inferred partial phase error is next totaled by a 'FIR bypass mode' phase detector (204) and entire shift is provided.
