PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve that conventional problem that desired optical characteristics are unavailable because an optical device manufactured by a method currently in use or a conventional optical device fails to form a film of a prescribed thickness on the end face of an optical fiber. SOLUTION: In this method for manufacturing an optical device, after a metallic film is formed on side of a optical fiber (fiber) 1, a film 3 is formed on the end face 2 of the fiber 1 and the fiber 1 is then fixedly inserted into a ferrule 4 until the film-formed end face 2 projects from the end face 5 of the ferrule 4. Relating to this optical device, the fiber with the metallic film formed on the side is fixedly inserted into the ferrule, the end face of the fiber projects outward from the end face of the ferrule, a distance L between both end faces satisfies the relation of L<4×d (d is the outer diameter of the fiber with the metallic film formed on the side face), and a film is formed on the end face of the fiber. |
