PURPOSE: A bearing device provided to incorporate a bearing device easily into a radial clearance even upon dispersion of the shaft insertion bore of the housing. CONSTITUTION: A bearing device(4) is pressed in the clearance between the internal surface of the shaft insertion bore of a steering column(2) and the external surface of a steering shaft(3) inserted in the shaft insertion bore, to support the steering shaft(3). The bearing device(4) comprises a roller bearing(7) mounted on the external surface of the steering shaft(3), and a spacer ring(6) interposed between the external surface of the roller bearing(7) and the internal surface of the shaft insertion bore. The spacer ring(6) has a thick-walled portion of a radial thickness, and at least one thin-walled portion defined along the internal or external surface or at an end face adjoining the thick-walled portion to have such a reduced thickness as facilitates deformation of the spacer ring(6).
