PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a temperature compensation type oscillator and to reduce its manufacture cost. SOLUTION: A frequency comparator circuit 8 which compares the frequency of an externally inputted external reference frequency signal with the frequency of the oscillation output signal of an oscillator circuit 1 and a sequential comparison register 9 which determines respective bits according to the comparison result are provided; and the digital signal from the sequential comparison register 9 is inputted to a D/A converter 5 which generates the control voltage for a variable capacitance diode CV to perform self-compensating operation for equalizing the frequency of the oscillation output signal to that of the external reference frequency signal by sequentially setting the respective bits of the sequential comparison register 9 each time a frequency comparison is made and the digital signal from the sequential comparison register 9 is used as compensation data corresponding to the detected temperature of a temperature detector 2 at this time to perform the self-compensating operation each time specific temperature change is detected by the temperature detector 2, thereby determining the compensation data.
