PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for image recording capable of realizing much longer data recording by reducing the amount of data easily with a simple constitution. SOLUTION: An image recording device for recording image data encoded in accordance with MPEG2 standard on a recording medium, comprising to convert the image data to 20 frames/sec when said image data is a progressive image data of 24 frames/sec, and to record said image data on the recording medium 25 with adding an attribute information (repeat-first-field=1) to do repeated displaying of field in each frame.
