PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly calculate an average coated weight in the width direction at a position where the coated weight of a plated band largely varries in the running direction. SOLUTION: A measuring head 17 in a coated weight meter 16 is displaced while reciprocatively shifting in the width direction of the running plated band to measure the coated weight of the plated band. A memory 20 stores the measured result at plural predetermined positions in the width direction of the band for each measuring position in the width direction. A calculating means 21 obtains a first average coated weight in the width direction from the stored measurement result, the ratio of the coated weight measured at each measuring position in the width direction to the obtained first average coated weight, is obtained and stored for each measuring position in the width direction. Then, after the starting position of changing the coated weight of the plated band reaches the measuring head, at each time of measuring the coated weight, the ratio corresponding to the measuring position in the width direction is obtained from the memory 20, and a second average coated weight is calculated based on the obtained ratio.
