Heterogeneous catalyst system (A) comprising at least one catalytically active substance (I) deposited on a carrier and (optionally) at least one co-catalyst, where the carrier comprises particles of diameter smaller than 100 microns and the carrier (optionally also (I)) is at least partly magnetic or magnetizable, is new. (I) is iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, silver, gold, palladium, platinum, cadmium, chromium, manganese, tungsten, vanadium, titanium or molybdenum, or their mixtures, in elemental or ionic form, especially (mixed) oxides. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) preparation of percarboxylic acid, epoxidation of (poly)unsaturated organic compounds, or transesterification or perhydrolysis of carboxylate esters, using (A); and (2) partly magentic particles with diameter smaller than 100 micron comprising a metallic oxide core surrounded by a coating or layer of a different metal oxide, including their suspensions in (in)organic liquids.
