The device has a filler tube opening into a fuel tank that can be closed by a closure device. A level sensor in the tank closes a fill level limiting valve (30) mounted on the filler tube at a defined level. The valve is electrically operated and is influenced by at least one further sensor (34,36,38). The further sensor can be a sensor for tank cover position detection or an acceleration sensor for a vehicle safety device.
