A free space electron switch is disclosed. The switch (30), which is useful in high speed telecommunications traffic, has an array of cathodes (10) for emitting free space electrons. A grid of aiming anodes (16) and, a focusing grid (14) for forming electrons form the cathode (10) into an electron beam are provided. A plurality of output ports (20) for receiving the electron beam from each cathode is provided, the output ports having a phosphor coating facing the side of the channel remote from the cathode. |
