PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar heat treating apparatus which can rapidly heat and cool a bar of a metal or the like, and hardly damage the bar. SOLUTION: This bar heat treating apparatus comprises a heat treatment roll 22 having a temperature adjusting mechanism 28 inside, a rotating mechanism for rotating the heat treatment roll 22, and a traveling mechanism for continuously traveling the bar abutted on an outer circumferential surface of the heat treatment roll 22. The heat treatment roll 22 comprises a columnar roll body 24 and a heat-resistant sleeve 26 wound around the outer circumferential surface of the roll body 24.
