PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an index at a place where the change of sound volume is not less than a fixed level. SOLUTION: The broadcast data are received via an antenna 18 and a tuner 20, and the received image data and sound data are recorded on a recording medium 28. Under such conditions, a CPU 10 extracts the sound volume data and registers the sound volume and an image frame number on an index table of a RAM 26 when the change of sound volume caused right before extraction of the sound volume data is not less than its threshold.
