PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance driveability by preventing fluctuation of combustion and aggravation of combustibility when switching a combustion form between homogenous combustion and stratified combustion. SOLUTION: This control device for a cylinder fuel injection engine to carry out homogenous combustion or stratified combustion in accordance with an operating condition has a purge control valve 21 provided in a purge passage 19 bringing an intake passage into communication with a fuel tank 18 to adjust the purged quantity of evaporated fuel to the intake passage, and a control device 12 to select either one form of the homogenous combustion or the stratified combustion and to control the purge control valve 21 in accordance with the combustion form. If this control device 12 is brought into an operating condition under which the combustion form is to be switched from the homogenous combustion to the stratified combustion, it completely closes the purge control valve 21 in the first place to ban purging of the evaporated fuel, when production of the evaporated fuel is big. After banning of the purge continues for a designated time, under the condition where the inflow of the evaporated fuel causing disturbance to fuel injection quantity is substantially lowered, the combustion is switched from the homogenous combustion to the stratified combustion.
