PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for monitoring a dark place that keeps the luminance distribution of a picked-up image uniform even when a pickup range of a monitoring camera is changed. SOLUTION: LEDs 3a, 3b are placed on a board 2 on both sides of a lens 1 of the monitoring camera and the LEDs emit an infrared ray to a monitoring range to pick up an image of an object. In the case that a lens in a standard mode is changed into a wide angle lens or the wide angle lens is changed into the lens in the standard mode or the monitoring area is changed, luminance data of a video signal from the monitoring camera are obtained, the luminance distribution is detected, and when the luminance is ununiform, and a motor 4 is driven to move both ends of the board around a division section 5 in a direction of the arrows (or in a reverse direction) to change the emission angle of the LEDs thereby uniformizing the luminance distribution.
