<p>A coin discriminator analyses an edge pattern of a coin (10) moving past a sensor (20). The sensor comprises an optical source (30) for emitting light (30') onto an edge (40) of the coin and an optical receiver (50) for receiving light reflected from the edge (50'). Furthermore, the coin discriminator comprises a processing device (60), coupled to the sensor and adapted to analyse a signal representing the light received by the optical receiver and in respone determine a type of the coin.
