The invention relates to a method for determining at least one mechanical fracturing material parameter of a test sample, comprising a step in which a mechanical fracturing test is carried out in order to stimulate the growth of a crack from an existing crack in a test sample. During the mechanical fracturing test, a chronological series of images of the test sample is taken, making sure that each image shows the crack, and digital representations of said images are recorded. A digital image evaluation procedure is carried out to determine the position of the tip of the crack in each image, in order to determine, on the basis of this, the length of the crack as a function of time. Finally, at least one mechanical fracturing parameter is determined on the basis of a length of a crack calculated as a function of time and a further physical variable recorded on the same time basis.
