If optical detectors are used for remote controls, they must be able to function over long distances and under various environmental conditions. This means that they must have high sensitivity and therefore they also respond to electrical and magnetic fields. Therefore, they previously have been packed in an assembly, which has an additional internal metal shield in order to protect them from electromagnetic interference. 2.2. In this optical detector, the surface is coated with polysilicon, except for the top-lying cathode contact. Furthermore, a thick oxide layer is arranged between the substrate and the polysilicon coating. 2.3. Such optical detectors, which are not subject to electromagnetic interference, are primarily required for remote controls.
