PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treating agent comprising nonpoisonous molding having treating ability comparable to that of a powdery alkali agent in the treatment of halogen-containing acidic gases. SOLUTION: A multiple metal hydroxide having >=30 m2/g BET specific surface area, >=20 ml/10 g apparent bulk density and <= 20μm average particle diameter represented by the formula: (M2+)1-x(M3+)x(OH-)2+x-y(An-y/n [where M2+ is at least one divalent metal ion selected from the group comprising Mg2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Fe2, Ca2+ and Cu2+; M3+ is at least one trivalent metal ion selected form the group comprising Al3+ and Fe3+; An- is an n-valent anion; 0.1<=x<=0.5; 0.1<=y<=0.5; and (n) is 1 or 2] is mixed with a lubricant and molded to obtain the objective treating agent for halogen-containing acidic gases.
