PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of a sheet break or dispersion of a number of sorted sheets at sorting operation by a sorting plate. SOLUTION: The device comprises an impeller 3 for rotationally conveying paper sheets 2 from a feeding belt 1 one after another downward which is provided in the downstream end of the feed belt 1 for feeding the sheets 2 one after another, an end alignment plate 24 for abutting the end of the sheets 2 conveyed by the impeller 3 and falling the sheets 2 downward to be accumulated, and a sorting plate 50 for temporarily receiving the sheets 2 fallen from the impeller 3 by an arc shaped inner surface to sort them, wherein the sorting plate 50 is provided so as to be capable of reciprocating rotation from a sorting location to a waiting location, removably supported to a shaft 8 of the impeller 3 through a one way clutch 45 for engaging in the opposite direction to a direction of the rotation of the impeller 3, energized by a spring in the direction of the rotation of the impeller 3, and is made to swing by a drive device 63 in the opposite direction to the rotation of the impeller 3 against the energizing force by the spring.
