PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a composite oxide catalyst capable of producing an objective material by a vapor phase oxidation reaction in high selectivity and a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the composite oxide containing at least Mo and V is characterized in that a strong acid is added to a liquid medium containing the raw material compound for the composite oxide, and the resultant liquid medium is dried and fired.
