PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheelchair which can keep a seat to be always horizon tal even in the traveling on the slopes of a downhill and uphill, can travel always safely, can be escaped while a user sites on the seat even when a wheel runs off and can ride over a step safely. SOLUTION: The wheelchair is provided with a base frame 10, a seat 52, a front wheel 11 and a rear frame 13 and a leveling device 20 for keeping the seat 52 to be horizontal is fitted to this wheelchair. This leveling device 20 consists of an inclination sensor 23 fitted to the seat 52 for detecting the horizontal degree of the seat and a leveling cylinder 21 which is fitted between the frame 10 and the seat 52 and can expand and contract so as to make the seat 52 horizontal in accordance with the signal of the sensor 23.
