SUBSTANCE: proposed method of operation of internal combustion engine includes compression of air in compression cylinder, bypassing of air through heat-taking gas duct of recuperative heat exchanger into combustion chamber, combustion of fuel in combustion chamber, expansion of combustion products in expansion cylinder and exhaust of gases with cooling in recuperative heat exchanger and recovery of heat with use of water and steam in heat transfer and heat-taking ducts of regenerative heat exchanger. According to proposed method, bypassed compressed air is accumulated in cooled receiver-accumulator, is cooled and then returned into compression cylinder, is subjected to additional compression and is fed to input of heat-taking gas duct of recuperative heat exchanger. Novelty is that in compressed air takeoff system of internal combustion engine output of compression cylinder and input of heat-taking duct of recuperative heat exchanger are connected through accumulating and distributing compressed air system two receivers-accumulators of which are heat insulated, furnished with heat accumulators and coupled through closed cooling system.
