A method of making decorative articles comprises stringing pierced beads or the like on a synthetic fibre at selected intervals separately or in groups, the members being initially strung on the smooth synthetic fibre at large intervals and being spaced at predetermined distances by twisting the portions of fibre located between the members so that the spacing may be varied by stretching the article. Decorative members 1 are threaded on a synthetic fibre 3 which is crocheted to form chain stitches 4 between the members. Lengths of straight fibre may alternate with groups of beads on extensible threading or the beads may be grouped on straight fibres and joined by helical coils of fibre. A sleeve 12 may enclose a number of fibres 3 and chain stitches 4 connecting the decorative members 11 in groups on fibres of different extension. The fibre may be crimped or shrunk or subjected to heat treatment to obtain elasticity. The fibres may have a polyamide base. |
