PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an agricultural mulch not using a chemical fertilizer at all, being biodegradable and friendly to an environment, capable of remarkably reducing the load of an agricultural operation, having excellent insecticidal activity and repelling activity on birds and animals, and to provide both methods for producing and using the agricultural mulch. SOLUTION: This method produces the agricultural mulch which is formed by blending an essential oil of plant called a herb such as citronella, geranium, etc., alone or a blend of plural kinds of the herbs with hot Guinea pepper or garlic or both and adding a fixed amount of the blend to a nonwoven fabric composed of 100% flax or a nonwoven fabric composed of 70-80% of flax and 30-20 wt.% of pulp by a method such as impregnation, etc. The agricultural mulch can increase toughness, can deal with different meteorological conditions and can be lighted by using the nonwoven fabric consisting essentially of flax. Consequently, the agricultural mulch is easily handled even by an aged person. Further an insecticidal effect is increased by the essence of hot Guinea pepper or garlic besides the herb. Further since the agricultural mulch has a repelling action on birds and animals, it is suitable as an agricultural mulch useful for various kinds of field crops including vegetables and fruits throughout the year.
