PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an itching model animal for evaluating the therapeutic effects of medicines, medicine compositions, skin care preparations, or the like against itching accompanying the depression of the skin barrier function and for evaluating the improving effects of skin care preparations or cosmetics for the skin barrier function depression causing the crisis of itch, and to provide a method for making the animal. SOLUTION: This method for making a model animal for itching accompanying the destruction of a skin barrier function, comprising applying a defatting treatment using an organic solvent to the hair-free skin of a test small animal and further applying a water treatment to the animal. Thereby, a skin morbid state caused by the skin barrier function destruction not accompanied by inflammation can be made to cause the crisis of the itching syndrome.
