Disclosed are preferred devices and methods and compositions for treating fluids. In certain aspects of the invention, devices, methods and compositions are provided for the extracorporeal treatment of blood or other fluids for effective plasmafiltration or hemofiltration alone or in combination with dialysis. Preferred devices are designed to circulate a treatment solution, such as, for example, a sorbent suspension, containing magnetic particles or other relatively high density particles through a treatment device. Moving magnetic fields serve to help mix the sorbent suspension and/or a leak detector located downstream from the filtration membrane collects and detects any magnetic particles that pass into the blood fluid. |
