GENE FOR ENCODING NEW PROTEIN AND ITS USAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gene encoding a new enzyme in order to improve the efficiency of decomposing a hardly decomposable compound and put the enzyme to practical use for environmental cleaning by elucidating the cell mechanism of a basidiomycete through the screening of a stress response gene which is expressed in a responding manner by adding a sulfur-containing hetero cyclic compound to the basidiomycete and isolating an enzyme having high decomposing activity from the natural world, and its usage. SOLUTION: A gene expressed in a responding manner by giving 4- methyldibenzothiophene-5-oxide as a stressing substance to white-rot fungus Cariolus versicolor, and having a nucleotide sequence described in the sequence number 1 (see the specification). An isolated protein having an amino acid sequence encoded by the gene and described in the sequence number 2 (see the specification), and the usage of the gene.
