PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method giving aluminum a good lubricating property and at the same time, an abrasion resistant surface, and also usable for surface adjustment before adhering the surface. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a method of forming a chemical conversion coating on the surface of aluminum. First, the surface of aluminum is treated with hot degreasing or alkaline aqueous solution degreasing, and is sprayed a KF aqueous solution on the treated surface to be subjected a chemical conversion coating on the surface. The concentration of KF in the solution is 0.5-15.0 wt.% and the temperature is 32-100 deg.C (90-210 deg.F) Spraying on the surface of aluminum is carried out under 345-3447 hPa (5-50 psi) and for at least 5 sec. The chemical conversion coating formed on the surface of aluminum consists essentially of (a) substantially all K3AlF6 or (b) a mixture composing of a major proportion of K3AlF6 and a minor proportion of KAlF4.
