PURPOSE: A spindle motor for a hard disk drive is provided to simplify a structure of the spindle motor for a hard disk drive by utilizing a limited space to the maximum extent. CONSTITUTION: A flange(4) includes a circular plate(41) having a concave portion(42), a flange reference portion(43), and a projected portion(44). A stator(6) is fixed on the concave portion(42) of the flange(4). A rotary shaft(3) is fixed to a center of the flange(4). A hub(5) is installed at an upper end portion of the rotary shaft(3). Couples of bearings(8) are inserted into an upper portion and a lower portion of an inner circumference portion(50) of the hub(5), respectively. A magnet(72) including a shielding member(71) is installed at a lower end portion of the hub(5). The hub(5) includes an outer circumference portion(51) and an extended portion(53) having a ring-shaped projection(52). A center of magnetic field of the magnet(72) corresponds to the height of the flange reference portion(43).
