PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal with a cover by which a user can quickly take a measure in response to the operating state of the terminal body while preventing mis-operation and destruction of the display section caused during carrying. SOLUTION: In a state that a front side of the display section 9 is open by allowing a drive section 11 to wind up the cover 12, a control section 13 discriminates whether or not the portable terminal is in a transmission/speech state and whether or not a lighting section 10 is in a lighting state on the basis of a signal processed by a signal processing section 4 and various instructions from an operation section 4 and controls the drive section 11 when the control section 13 discriminates that the portable terminal is not in the transmission/ speech state and the lighting section 10 is not lighted for extracting the cover thereby closing the surface of the display section 9.
