DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONCEALING INTERPOLATION ARTIFACT IN VIDEO INTERLACED TO PROGRESSIVE SCAN CONVERTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which no temporal distortion is caused even when interposed and interpolated lines have different time reference from that of interlaced lines in a progressive scan video signal that is generated from an interfaced scan video signal by means of interpolation. SOLUTION: The temporal distortion can be relaxed by detecting vertical low frequency spatial distortion in an interpolation video signal and generating a compensation signal to reduce the vertical low frequency spatial distortion when the noise is applied to an interpolation video signal. A spatial low pass filter is applied to pixels corresponding to some adjacent lines of a current field in an original interlace image. Simultaneously the spatial low pass filter is applied to pixels corresponding to some interpolated lines inserted between interlace image lines to sequentially generate an image.
